The Iowa Plumbing and Mechanical Systems Board are the ones who you must apply with to become a licensed Plumbing Contractor or Journeyman Plumber in Iowa. The Iowa Plumbing and Mechanical Systems Board was established to license those working in the plumbing, hydronic, HVAC and refrigeration disciplines. The board issues trade licenses, specialty licenses and medical gas piping installation certification. Contractor licenses began to be issued on November 1, 2012. Anyone working in these disciplines in the state of Iowa is required to be licensed with the Board.
