Louisiana LA Plumbing License Requirements and Plumber License Verification, Renewal and Application

The State Plumbing Board Of Louisiana are the ones who you must apply with to become a licensed Plumbing Contractor or Journeyman Plumber in Louisiana. In 1924, when the Department of Health and Hospitals developed codes to protect the people of Louisiana, the Louisiana Plumbing Law was enacted and the State Plumbing Board was created. The State Plumbing Board continues to fulfill our fiscal responsibilities as well as protect the health and welfare of the people of Louisiana initially doing so by moving forward to the enactment of the Louisiana Master Plumber Licensing Law in 1990. You must pass an examination in order to be licensed to perform or install plumbing work. To qualify for the Journeyman Plumber exam, you must verify at least five years or 8,000 hours of work experience installing, repairing, or maintaining plumbing systems. The Board does not have any reciprocity agreements with other states; however, if you have a valid plumbing license in another state, you can use it to qualify to take the Journeyman Plumber exam in Louisiana in lieu of the required vouchers. Once you obtain your Journeyman Plumber license, you may apply to take the Master Plumber exam. In addition to the Master and Journeyman Plumber licenses, the State Plumbing Board also issues Water Supply Protection Specialist (WSPS) endorsements, Medical Gas Installer licenses, and Medical Gas Verifier licenses.(excerpt from The State Plumbing Board Of Louisiana official web site).
